Microsoft – Outlook POP or IMAP
Important Notice
- Any reference toYourEmailAddress@cornerstone.ac.za should be replaced with the e-mail address that was sent to you.
- You will find your password in the same document.
- If you have not received your details, please check your Junk mail folder first and then log a call with funda@cornerstone.ac.za
- The procedure to setup your Outlook profile with either IMAP or POP are the same. The only difference is the server information used.
Procedure
- If you open Microsoft Outlook for the first time you will be presented with the following window at some point.
If you already have account setup and need to add your Cornerstone Email address, click on the File tab.
Then click ‘Add Account’
- Choose the second option, ‘Manual setup or additional server types.’
- At the next screen select ‘POP or IMAP.’
- Fill in the form with the appropriate details.
- Your Name: Your full name
- Email address: YourCornerstoneEmail@cornerstone.ac.za
- Account type: POP3 or IMAP
- Incoming server (POP3): pop.gmail.com
or
Incoming server (IMAP): imap.gmail.com - Outgoing server (POP3 & IMAP): smtp.gmail.com
- Username: YourCornerstoneEmail@cornerstone.ac.za
- Password: Your password
- Check the box ‘Remember password’
POP3
IMAP
- Click on More Settings and then the ‘Outgoing Server’ tab.
- Make sure the box ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ is ticked.
- Make sure the radio button ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’ is selected.
- Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab and make the following changes:
- POP3 settings:
- Incoming Server (POP3): 995
- Check the ‘This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)’ box
- Outgoing Server (SMTP): 465
- From the drop down menu ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection,’ select SSL
- Change the rest of the settings according to your preferences
- Click ‘OK’
- IMAP settings:
- Incoming Server (IMAP): 993
- Check the ‘This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)’ box
- Outgoing Server (SMTP): 587
- From the drop down menu ‘Use the following type of encrypted connection,’ select TLS
- Change the rest of the settings according to your preferences
- Click ‘OK’
- POP3 settings:
- Back at the main screen click ‘Next.’ Outlook will perform a test to check your settings. If the test was successful you will see the message below. If the test was not successful, please check your settings again.
